vr gaming
I wish VR gaming took off more.
I wish it was more enticing and gripping.
But alas, I hardly ever feel the call to use my Quest 2 headset for anything.
It’s definitely cool, but I think the drawbacks are just enough to push it off the “go-to” list for me, especially as an adult. You only have so much time and if you have to put this sweat-inducing thing on your head, make sure it’s charged, make sure you have enough space and you’re in a well-lit room. And then know that whatever game you play, you’re likely going to get motion sickness within an hour or so.
It’s just not worth it.
Except for VR boxing. It’s a really effective and fun exercise. The games I play for that are Thrill of the Fight and Thrill of the Fight 2. I think it’s way too janky to play multiplayer, and you inevitably run into the spamming min-maxers who cheese the game and look more like crabs than fighters. But the singleplayer is fun. And it gets me super sweaty, so it must be working.
I still think it’s going to be a really cool technology one day. Maybe we can get to the Black Mirror pods that you slap on your temple and get transported to a VR world, without even having to move around in real life. That would be worth it.
As long as you don’t think about how Facebook would definitely sell your brain wave data to the highest bidder…
