i wish to be mechanically inclined

My dad is a very handy person and can fix damn near anything mechanical or electrical at fault. I have always been pretty clumsy with hands-on work and haven’t had much interest in the comparatively imperfect and complicated world of mechanical moving parts.

For the last few years I have felt a growing desire to become more handy with both electrical parts but especially mechanical parts. Accelerated perhaps, by my now being a homeowner and having a bunch of things I need to maintain. I want to be able to replace my own car parts, and A/C parts, and washing machine parts, etc. Not entirely as a money-saving mechanism but also an ego thing. I don’t like to be swindeled and taken as a fool. Like the dealership trying to charge me 200 bucks to change some filters in my car.

It’s always felt like black magic how someone can just take a look at a machine and know exactly what to do. But I guess that’s probably how non-computer people must feel when I do the same thing with software.

I’m going to borrow a term from weightlifting and progressively overload my handy-ness. I started small and replaced my own cabin and engine filters for my car. Only cost me 40 bucks and took me like 15 minutes. Maybe the next thing will be to install a hard start kit for my A/C.

the (almost) in the "(almost) daily posts" is doing some heavy lifting now
